Unix/Linux Engineer - Mississauga
Fusepoint is currently searching for a Unix/Linux Engineer to join the Technical Team in our Mississauga office. The Unix/Linux Engineer is part of a 3-tier technology-based national Operations team that works to support Fusepoint's customers and internal users. The goal of the Operations team is to ensure services are available on a 24x7 basis with minimal interruptions to service. The Unix/Linux Engineer troubleshoots and closes off escalated trouble tickets relevant to his/her technology platform(s) assigned by the 1st level or 2nd level support technician or by his/her Manager within the timeframe required by Fusepoint's Customer Service Level Agreement (SLA). To be successful in this position, the candidate must have the ability to communicate appropriately with customers and other internal team members as well experience with documentation practices.
Responsibilities:
Working as part of a team and reporting to the Technical Team Lead, the responsibilities of the Unix/Linux Engineer involve all aspects of customer solution sizing and deployment, implementation, Operating system and other software support, security, troubleshooting and overall administration of those systems. The Unix/Linux Engineer will provide 3rd level or engineering level support for customer and internal Unix/Linux infrastructure. This involves performing hands-on troubleshooting and maintenance, responding to customer as well as internal requests, deploying customer solutions, installations and updates, and ensuring the integrity of the overall solution.
In addition, the Unix/Linux Engineer will provide 24x7 3rd level support coverage during on-call rotation, assist with the planning and implementation of Unix system infrastructure and policies, perform special projects, and other duties as required.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years experience in Unix and Redhat Linux running mid-size production systems (more than 20 servers) including
experience implementing enterprise-scale applications in the Unix/Linux environment
• Extensive hands-on experience designing and troubleshooting system level problems on Linux and Solaris.
• Experience designing, implementing, supporting secure architecture in a Unix/Linux environment is a must
• Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux Security. Knowledge of data security standards, security principles and various network technologies.
• Solid experience supporting Unix/Linux operating systems on Intel x86, x86_64 and Sparc hardware from various vendors – HP, Sun, IBM, Dell.
• Ability to perform performance analysis and tuning on OS and application levels.
• Solid knowledge of operating system internals, file system structures, volume management, kernel parameters.
• Must be willing to be on-call including evenings, weekends and holidays
• Knowledge of Web apps such as Apache, Tomcat, PHP, jBoss, iPlanet, Weblogic
• Knowledge of relational database technology such as Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL
• Knowledge of QMail, Postfix, DNS/Bind, anti-SPAM filters, etc.
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
• Knowledge and experience supporting HP-UX and AIX operating systems
• Knowledge and experience using Veritas NetBackup
• Working knowledge of SAN/NAS technology and interfaces for storage and backup
• Knowledge and experience using enterprise server monitoring (especially Nagios)
Education/Professional Training:
• IT Diploma from recognized technical institution
• Certifications are an asset - SCSA, SCNA, RHCE, RHCT, LPIC, OCA, etc.
